OUR TOUR BURNER RATING: 9/10
“I hit the ball better than ever before”, seems to be the genuine consensus amongst real golfers, whenever they talk about Taylor Made Tour Burner Irons. And there is real substance behind the hype, because if you are looking for a rock-solid set of Game Improvement clubs, you will find the Tour Burner series hard to beat – especially at their price point.
PERFORMANCE POINTS
The 4 iron feels more like a 2 iron, when you compare it to other brand name clubs. Proficient golfers can easily hit a 180 yard shot with the 5 iron. That’s roughly the distance we used to get from a “regular” 3 iron! Can you imagine hitting a wedge 150 yards! Pretty impressive. Once you adjust to the extra yardage that these clubs pack, you will almost certainly see an improvement in your game.
There is a lot of hype around the “forgiveness” of modern irons. However, players do indeed find that slight mis-hits, or off-center shots, will still travel relatively far, straight and on target.
The “balloon” shot – the scourge of many a “weekend” golfer – is also less likely to happen, because the club head is designed for more efficient ball flight and trajectory. To make a bad slice shot, you’d have to throw a pretty bad swing at the golf ball.
Most occasional golfers would never dream of “working” the ball – that is, imparting draw or fade to your shot deliberately. But players find it easier to work the ball with Tour Burners, even if their natural tendency is to hit a straight, or drawn, shot.
